Blue and Gold Goodness

so what is a 5 foot tall volcano doing in our garage? Steve volunteered to make it for the annual Boy Scout Blue and Gold dinner. This year the theme was "aloha". We started out trying to paper mache this behemoth, but quickly went to Plan B which was covering it in cheap acrylic felt. We have stressed to Ben the importance of always having a Plan B, good advice for life.
here are some more glimpses:

the cake...can you tell it is supposed to be the big island with Maui, Kauai and other small islands floating in the deep blue sea? Each den makes a cake for judging, then it becomes dessert. We won first prize for "geographically most accurate". Other categories included most pristine beach front, best use of multi-headed animals, and most likely to be used as a set in an action movie. I wish I had pictures of some of the other cakes, they were great.

Here is part of the den admiring the cake.

the skit, suitably goofy for such an event.

Robb and I are marveling at your photos, and how happy everyone looks. (Love the paws-up cake-admiring shot!)
"Best Use of Multi-Headed Animals?" That's an honor worth mentioning on a college application!
Those are really magnificent pictures. what kind of camera do you use. I have a cheapy powershot A10 and mine aren't nearly that beautiful
I love plan B - the papier-mache and myself are not very good friends. It is not my medium, and something that large, well it would mold on me in no time flat.
wow! those mini paper umbrellas!!! could you pls tell me where i can buy those?? i've been finding them for so long!! years?!!
how did you make the volcano, i want to make one for a church breakfast.
