spring busy-ness

bumblebee with pollen load

i attended the introductory beekeeping class yesterday and today I am scouting a good site for my hive. We have a huge ceanothus, aka California lilac, in full bloom now and it is covered with happy bumblebees. Presumably these are the same girls who live in our birdhouse. They are constantly in motion and it took me a while to get a decent shot. Bees are incredible animals.

I bought a used bee hive years old
for 16 acre tennessee farm, but
the tracheal mite scare me so much, I never followed thru...

a small conveineince store in
downtown Linclon, NE when I was in University had a clear plastic
hive in the front window and the bees came and went from PVC pipe the opened up to the second floor.

always great to watch. I found it
surprising the bees could find pollen in a downtown urban paved enviroment.

Lovely lilacs...what's happening with the bees? I heard something on the radio about how a million have "disappeared" in the last year!

a shame you're not blogging at the moment. Enjoy and appreciate the spirit that resides here.

Also so surprised at your reading list -- lots in common. Plus the sustainability thing too.

Have you read The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd? If not, I just know you'll love it!

I really enjoy reading your blog, it always has great insight. But I am very frustrated with the fact that so few people are talking about presidential candidates and their thoughts on global warming. Now that it is down to just a few candidates I would think that this would be a bigger issue.

Live Earth just picked up this topic and put out an article ( http://www.liveearth.org/news.php ) live earth is also asking why the presidential candidates are not being solicited for their stance on the issue of the climate change. I just saw a poll on www.EarthLab.com that says people care a lot about what their next leader thinks of global warming. Does anyone know of another poll or other results about this subject?

Here is the page where I saw the EarthLab poll: http://www.earthlab.com/life.aspx. This is a pretty legit website; they are endorsed by Al Gore and the alliance for climate protection and they have a carbon footprint calculator. Does anyone have a strong opinion about this like I do?

Hey thanks for the great blog, I love this stuff. I don’t usually do much for Earth Day but with everyone going green these days, I thought I’d try to do my part.

I am trying to find easy, simple things I can do to help stop global warming (I don’t plan on buying a hybrid). Has anyone seen that www.EarthLab.com is promoting their Earth Day (month) challenge, with the goal to get 1 million people to take their carbon footprint test in April? I took the test, it was easy and only took me about 2 minutes and I am planning on lowering my score with some of their tips.

I am looking for more easy fun stuff to do. If you know of any other sites worth my time let me know.
